“You don’t want to use momentum to lift the weight”

That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard. If you don’t use momentum for golf fitness what do you use. The Golf swing is powered by momentum. The body reacts through eccentric & concentric contractions to control momentum throughout the swing.

Therefore, we must train through momentum to have any chance of increasing our golf performance! Otherwise we are training incorrectly!

dont listen to mkpt50 he doesnt know what he is talking about your the professional not him so keep it up….

Thanks GUNman! I was going to counter him but I think I’ll leave it alone. Momentum and weight training should NOT be combined. The older golfer will injure himself very quickly and be off the course indefinitely. Conditioning is to STRENGTHEN your golf muscles.

Let me ask this question. When a PRO baseball swings a heavy bat, does he swing it hard. NO! That would be ridiculous as he would injure both shoulder joints, elbows and probably wrists. He swings it slowly and with control. I’m done.

mkpt50: For the average person this is the worst advice. Swinging weights around like that is asking for an injury. Someone could easily injure their rotator cuff doing that. I see people at the gym, who are not golfers, work out that way. Instead of using acontrolled motion, they use momentum or jerk motions to do the work out. Those are the folks who always look the same and never improve. For momentum training, I would prefer to use a weighted golf club. Weight is ligther and more distributed

GUNman3893: I totally agree with you.
This video is great to build up the muscle and if someone wants to work on momentum while building the muscle as well use a weighted club.

I appreciate the fact that you empahsize taking momentum out of the movement, and also strecthing between sets.

Golf trainer 1963….what are you talking about??? A baseball player AND a golfer swings a bat and/or club with GREAT velocity and power.

It IS an explosive movement that needs to be controlled through balance.

please don’t talk about things you do not know.

  9. Kenny1968 says:

mkpt50 has it correctly…. Of course you do not want to be SLOPPY but you need to train like you perform….explosively. these “educated” trainers that never played a sport in their life are amusing.

This is a good video, but some of these post are ridiculous.

” oh, lets train to swing bat slowly”…that makes sense.

i bet he just spits all over the place when he talks lmao

  11. Kyleboy337 says:

Swing a bat slowly? Pro Baseball players average bat speed is around 90 mph… I hardly call that slow…

  12. hugoK1000 says:

@mkpt50 with momentum your not training your muscles good enough… try doing this excercise super slow It will get a lot harder to lift the weight… that’s better for muscle strengtening… with momentum your not training your muscles at full potential… you get more momentum if your muscles get stronger
