But what it does is let the club head be perpendicular through impact longer than the conventional swing wrist action. In this video Golf Instructor, Jaacob Bowden will describe what the Spin the Meatballs Concept is. Leave a COMMENT if this video was of help to your golf game. wow… very nice discussion. For a really dominant right handed player “drop the hands” is hard… spin the meatballs is for whatever reason much easier

At least I only snap hook it 1 in 4 now instead of 4/4

    Thanks JB

Swingman-I am a left hander.I wanted to know in my swing thoughts regarding the downing,Should I be thinking in terms of hitting with my right arm or left.I feel when I use my dominant arm(Left)I tend to hit fat.I now my question is rather simplistic since there is alot more involved in a good swing ,my weight shift is fine.
    Thanks G

I’d say focus on the one that works for you. Since the same swing thought in two different people can produce different results, neither is necessarily “correct”. As an example, when I play whiffleball and swing left-handed, I focus on my lead arm…but when swinging right-handed, I hit better thinking about my trail arm.

  6. jaacobbowden says:

It may help to practice both ways, though. In my golf swing I’ve experimented with a variety of different thoughts focusing on different parts of the body. Some work better than others, but I found that when I worked on the ones that were weaker for me…after practice they actually became stronger in the long run than my original best swing thought strengths. My swing also actually got better because I had built a deeper internal map of my swing.

This should be called how to spin a big pile of steaming shit.

  8. TumblingDice66 says:

I’ve witnessed Jaacob in person effortlessly crush dead straight shots like guided missiles, one after the other, each one with more power than pros on tour, using this technique. Trust me, it’s not b.s.

  9. skrewgear says:

Then why isn’t he on tour?

  10. shortgamebull says:

rod ramjet01 keep swinging with a fast rotating clubface and see how straight u hit it-wankarrr

  11. jaacobbowden says:

I’ve experimented around a lot with technique and equipment. It’s difficult to be consistent and shoot regularly in the 60s doing that…as they say, it’s hard to perfect something that is constantly changing. I imagine I’ll bump up to the next level once I stop making changes. :-)

  12. jaacobbowden says:

For me personally, the conventional rotating club face is one of the most difficult techniques to use to hit straight shots.

  13. shortgamebull says:

I agree- i also believe putting should be square to square- i see commentators bagging danny lee’s putting action at the new zealand open because he did not rotate the putterface closed in his followthrough. They said that that was a technical fault- By the way Danny Lee won the Jonnie walker classic at 18 years of age with a so-called technical fault in his putting action-lol

jacob – Have you read the excerpts from Joe Dante’s ,”The Four Magic Moves.”The section on the wrists is somewhat like Shauger’s.His premise is that the backswing is initiated by a wrist cock.He practically gives the entire package away for free.Interested in your comments, especially the downswing. He states there must be a lateral move before the hip turn or the entire swing is wasted?

  15. jaacobbowden says:

Hmmm, yes, I think I have that book…but I believe it is still in storage from when my wife and I moved. I’ll have to dig it up again. :-)

hi, great advice. helped cleared up my any queries on spinning the meatball.

Do you have anything that addresses and Mike Austin set up and grip?

    Many thanks!

  17. jaacobbowden says:

Thanks, happy to hear it helps.

No, nothing on YouTube at the moment. :-/ I talk about grip and setup on the inside of the Swing Man Golf site…but it’s not really Austin specific.

  18. secrettogolf says:

Jaacob – I there anyway I can get my hands on some instructional DVD or VHS of Mike Austin. Also how close is the instruction that you and Shauger do to that of Mike Austin’s

    Thanks

There’s the mikeaustingolfdotcom website that Thomas Dan runs…and also Peace River’s Mike Austin: Secrets from the Game’s Longest Hitter video. Check those out. Dan’s stuff is very similar to Mike’s instruction except for how to use the hands (although, after Austin’s videos came out, Austin changed his viewpoint on how he thought the hands should work). As for me personally…I base my teaching on what the student wants to learn, so I guess it depends on the individual. ;-)

  20. secrettogolf says:

Thanks JB – Hope to see some more videos soon.C’mon what are you actaully playing golf-Haha.Anything on the timing of release ,weight shift ,spine tilt at impact would be great subjects.

  21. jaacobbowden says:

Yup, sure thing. Thanks for the info. I’m working on some new DVD concepts and will take those things in to consideration for them. Not sure when I’ll have them done, though. :-p Stay tuned!

  22. secrettogolf says:

Jaacob – What is the big secret to Mike Austin’s long and accurate swing.Did this also translate to his irons?I’ve been using the spin the meatball method with great success.I would like to add some of Austin’s methods which I feel I have picked up some here at Utube.I believe Dan was actually being given a lesson in one.The problem is the audio is bad and it’s hard to get everything being spoken.
    Thanks

Part of it I think was that he was physically able to swing fast, but there were also several distinctions in his swing that were different than many: using his legs to move his lower spine laterally to pivot around a fixed swing circle center, throwing the club head vs. creating lag, and counter-rotating on the way back (something he taught later on in life after he put out all his videos).

Visit my personal website…I’ve got a page dedicated to common questions I get regarding Mike. ;-)
