Golf Swing Lessons, Tips & Instruction – Hitting 3-5 Irons Too Low
How To Hit Long Irons swingmangolf.com Golf Swing Lessons, Tips & Instruction – How To Hit Long Irons (3-5 Irons) Learn how to hit long irons and also how to increase swing speed. Many amateurs have problems with their long irons (3-5 irons). Most of the golf instruction teaches us to have our hands in front of the club head at impact. Although this is a very good hand position for a professional with 110+ MPH swing speed, for amateurs with slower swing speeds this causes problems. In this video Golf Instructor, Jaacob Bowden will show you different ways you can utilize your 3-5 irons. Leave a COMMENT if this video was of help to your golf game. Something that I have trouble with and cannot seem to find info about is how do I determine the distance I should stand away from the ball. I either seem too far away and hook the ball, or too close and push it out. Any suggestions please?
It sounds like you already have an answer.
A simple solution would be to find the happy medium between where you hook & push the ball that produces a relatively straight shot. That said, there are different schools of thought on how far away from the ball to be…all of which will likely have validity. Without the space to get in to too much detail, I would say to find a spot that is comfortable & balanced. Then adjust the lie angles on your irons to fit the way you want to swing.
Im am not someone who should be giving lessons, however, I have been taking lessons since the first of the year and my pro says the the club and your body alignment (spine angle) should form a 45 degree angle. I hope that helps
When I play in the golf course most of my shots is sliced. I went to my coach and he says that am going across the ball so then I stopped doing that. I played in the golf course today and was trying to hit underneath ball (from my coach advice), I also tried to rotating my body to make sure that I didn’t stop moving when I strake my ball but I still slice the shot and really want to draw the ball. oh yeah the golf course is always windy just let you know. I wounder if you could help me.
Search for the videos in our SwingManGolf channel about slicing…and see if that can help out. I think we have two of them uploaded.
golf is soooo dam hard, one day i play ok another i am shocking, i cant seem to find consistancy, i dont think there are any vidoes for improving it
I’ll keep that in mind for future videos, thanks.
In the meantime, just briefly, be careful of changing your swing and/or equipment around too much. Even changing the loft on a wedge by one degree can throw your short game off for a bit. As Count Yogi would say, it’s hard to perfect something you are constantly changing.
Can someone help me with my swing? For iron shots i sometimes start my swing with my hands already ahead of the ball with the club at an angle and sometimes i do it when the clubs straight up and down. I have good contact both was, but I want to stick with one swing, which way is better?
I do the same thing and wonder if I’m doing it the wrong way. I start with my hand out in front of the ball. when I see pictures in golf magazines, they always appear to be holding it straight up and down.
yeah, do you know which way would be better?
Although I think that hands forward is more popularly taught, there are instructors that advocate both ways. I don’t think either one of them is “wrong”…success is found within the whole range. Personally, I like my hands slightly forward, but favoring the straight up side. Basically, it mimics the impact position that I want to get to. If you can make good contact either way, then it probably won’t matter too much which one you go with.
i like to look at the videos for tips but the best thing i have done is just get 100 balls and go to the park or a school feild and just hit ball after ball until you find what works for you i put a mark on all my balls so it leaves a mark on my club face to see exactly where i hit it as with cosistency i now have my legs straight with very little flex and try to mimic iron byron machine so the bottom half of me stays quite stationary and this has stopped me hitting fat
Hey I have always been taught to have my hands in front of the ball, but what is the straight up and down one? I’ve never heard of that one would you mind explaining that one to me please?
Just remember one very important thing. You are not simply returning to your address position. You create an angle between the shaft and your hands IN THE BACKSWING,you have created what is popularly known as the, “Flying Wedge.” With a straight left arm and hand, and the shifting of weight to the left side use this wedge to strike the ball with the right hand. It is in the backswing that the angle is created with which to strike the ball, not the set up.Practice w 1/4,1/2 &3/4 swings.
What do you use to mark your balls to leave a mark on the club face?
i use a sharpie marker it leaves a mark on the face time after time
I use black electric tape on the bottom of the iron to make sure I’m hitting it on the center. You can get some ‘sticky’ paper that goes on the face of the club so you can see where your ball is striking the club face. Both are very helpful.
how come when i it with all my irons except the wedge i hit the dirt and not the ball
It depends and it’s difficult to say without seeing you swing, but you may just be dipping down a little bit when you swing. Have a friend watch you or take a face-on video shot of your swing to see if this might be the case.
We also have a video about hitting fat shots elsewhere on the channel. Take a look at that and see if it helps get you started.
hi can someone help me please, i have just recently started to rotate on my backswing so that my back is facing the target. i find my legs coming up instead of just twisting with my body.??????? any help would be appreciated. thanks.
What more specifically do you mean by legs coming up? One or both coming off the ground? Straightening of the legs?
dude…how come you don’t show us? you just kind of talk about it… this is what i hate about these kinds of people…talk talk and talk, but not show… take a swing dude…
There are no swings in this particular video because I thought the information provided would be self-explanatory.
If you’d like to see some swings, the most recent ones I have as of today on the internet are on my personal channel. Search for the video “Jaacob Bowden Golf – Winter Practice in Zurich”. That particular video has several swings from earlier in the week.
could you look at my swing video and give me any advise, please.
Dude i know his intentions are good, but its hard enough as it is to have that good impact angle, i’d rather hit short irons with good impact then hit long irons okay with wrong impact
