Sand trap swing form and techniques from Loco4Golf Pro Gary Balliet
Proper downswing techniques from the video lesson series at Tips and techniques about how to play and swing from sand traps. Use multiple sand wedges–PW (48degrees of loft) Gap (52 degrees of loft) SW (56 degrees) & Lob (60 degrees) Each sand wedge has “Bounce” on the bottom of the sand wedge that skips the ball out of the sand bunker-Never dig it out-swing it out! Swing smooth and easy. Sand shots require a more vertical motion like drawing the letter “V”(clubhead) The motion is inside to inside NOT out side to inside. Hard sand use less bounce, 4-6 degrees. Soft sand use more bounce, 8-12 or more degrees Longer bunker shots use a 52 degree (lower) Short bunker shots use a 56 or 60 degree (high) Set-Up:Pick the correct wedge according to sand tecture and length of shot. Stance open to about 40 degrees-beginners stay square.(Left) Sand wedge slightly open–allows golfer to utilize more bounce. Ball position slightly forward (or middle) Weight on left foot slightly (75% left foot) Swing:Swing twice as hard compared to a pitch shot. (drag takes place) Hit about two inches behind ball. (see” egg drill”) Complete the finish-like a full golf swing. Don’t lift-it-out—let the clubhead do it. REMEMBER the shaft finishes vertical or slightly right of the target–never release and swing the club head around your body
