This is the drill for that! Feel the returning of the butt catapult the arms towards the target in the through swing!

    You Bet! The better the counterweight, the farther and straighter you will hit it and with less effort;

Great Drill! Do you think people will laugh at me if I play with my feet together for an entire round? Worth a shoot I think. I love all your videos so thank you very much for all you do for us hackers and I will try to make it to Canada some day to get a real life lesson from you!

Great drill. I never heard of it before I found your videos. I seen the pro watching me doing this the other day at the driving range. I think she was impressed ;)

  5. clemshaw says:

They won’t be laughing when you take their money with it! :)

This i s a great drill! I have been coming back to this drill to get my swing back in sync every once in a while. I feel that it teaches me to “swing within myself” so to speak, without losing my balance. I also gladly pass the tip forward to other golfer. I have never before heard such a good explanation to the drill, so thanks.

Hi This is a fantastic drill but no matter what i tey the only way i can hit the ball straight or with a slight draw is with a SLIGHTLY flat swing.
    Is this ok?

Shawn, I have a lot of problems, as most amateurs do, with half shots with the sand wedge. I recently heard that the arms and hands are not involved. the power plant is the turn of the body. Do agree?

Shawn, I’m very frustrated. For the life of me I cannot do the feet together drill properly or for that matter hit the ball solidly. I either top the ball and hit a low slice, and if I try to fix that I hit a very fat shot basically just popping up the ball. When I do hit it somewhat solid, it’s not the through the ball feel that I see from good shots and the divot is either right underneath the ball or right in front of the ball but going left at an angle instead of straight.

  10. thejunglekarma says:

I’ve watched most if not all of your youtube videos multiple times, and I also bought and watched your dvd. I’ve been trying to hit solid for 2 months with very little success. What should I do? What very very basic drill is easy enough to master that can start me on the right path? I’m just at the point of wanting to quit, but something keeps drawing me back. But nothing seems to be working.

Properly doing the feet together drill is in fact the foundation for teaching the golf swing IMHO. When teaching my step daughter it was the feet together drill that got everything to click for her.

Some big points. If you turn properly you should feel the pressure in your arch move to rear right foot front left foot on the backswing and the opposite on the follow through. The weight should never leave the inside of the feet when turning. This means you are turning with balance.

  12. bluejfk says:

I also feel that one way to achieve the right feel for this drill is to begin by doing this drill from hip to hip while maintaining the lower case y back and through as if you are doing a big chip shot. You then simply increase momentum until the right elbow collapses and your wrists cock on the back swing.

You really have to mentally get out of the way and let things happen.

Hey David; bluejfk has a great response; I would take this modified drill he talks about (you see it in the “Golf Pro lesson quick warm up” video) and run with it; I would also add the following 2 videos for great drills for contact with the ball: “Golf Pro lesson how to feel the short swing” and “golf pro lesson chip and hip turn update”…Build things up from chip to pitch to full swing and master every step on the way; Shawn

Just hit an 88! For somebody who has never even broken 100 before… that’s something. I credit this drill. as I got the video analysis from Shawn (money very well spent) and he told me quite simply, this is the drill for me! I didn’t hit it great… but my consistency was at another level and thus… 88! Thanks Shawn. My advice to all… watch the videos, buy the DVD and then get on his website and get his video analysis!

  15. clemshaw says:

Thanks skwon11! Fantastic! Thanks for taking the time to write us about it!

Shawn, I just want to say thank you so much for posting so many intelligent, easy to understand but still in depth videos. You have helped me tremendously already, and I plan on using your services once I can record all the necessary angles

hi Shawn, thank you and Matt for the instructions… YOUR CONFIRMATION IS REQUIRED! Now regarding the take away, in this video, 1) I saw ure hips stop moving at a point then ure hands start to hingh and levitate up…But in all ure slow motion video, the hands moving with the hips till wrist hingh at about shoulder level then your hips stop turning.. Which is the correct one?? when try to do the first scenerio, my chest opens up, overswing or lost foward tilt angle.. please help…..

  18. clemshaw says:

Easy; what you need to do is perfect your “perpetual motion drill” and BE AWARE of when it happens for you!! Never Never attempt to manipulate yourself into positions you PERCEIVE are correct; DO THE PERPETUAL MOTION DRILL with feet together and then with one leg and see the difference the range of motion does in each one to the timing of what you are asking THROUGH AWARENESS; give the motion to rhythm and gravity and then OBSERVE WHAT HAPPENS; Have fun! Shawn

    Right on!
    Ready when you are! Shawn

Shawn, Thanks for the most valuable tip to hit the irons crisply. I have a queation though. When I do this drill, after two or three swings, I either tend to lift the heel or my feet open-up towards the target. Is it normal? Other question is..when I set-up for pre-tilt, the club face opens-up as you tilt. I think you also do that way(I am not sure). Is this an issue?

  21. sandwah9 says:

if any pro had to ever think about all that, even when they were learning golf, they couldnt break an egg.

  22. krejudge says:

shawn, great videos you have been such a help to improving my game. I am really having a hard time feeling this braced tilt. When you tilt are you preturning your right hip a little as well? I have tried to find a down the line video to show the set up in the tilt but so many videos I can not seem to find on. Any suggestions on down the line video or the hip turn? thanks for alll you do

  23. jllaforce says:

Shawn, i run into two issues when I try this. The first is that my toes tend to come apart after I swing..Is this something I should try to correct? Also, when I’m not doing it correctly, I tend to push the ball about 30% to the right. This is a very consistant miss. Do you have any idea what may be causing this?
bty, i have an appointment with you early August. I spent 1 hour with you last year and it was awesome.

  24. hooptime says:

Shawn, I have been working on your stuff. It seems to me that the feet together drill is the most important drill to get positive things into the golf swing. Would this be correct? What would you say are the three most important drills?.

  25. heidiandbrian says:

Sounds like a great tip. I’m going to put it into motion and see if that helps my problems I’ve been having. I’ll report results good or bad.
